Field Service Management Trends for 2019

With 2019 just around the corner, we take a look at the upcoming trends in Field Service Management in the new year!

1. Augmented reality

“Augmented reality is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real-world are “augmented” by computer-generated perceptual information.” (Source)
Basically, augmented reality places a computer-generated image on the user’s view of the real world, allowing the user to see various components/images. For example, a technician could see all the particular assets in a building, just by using their mobile device to see this, see image below:

Although this may not be ready for mainstream adoption just yet, we predict that this will have a massive impact on service management companies. When augmented reality becomes standard issue, this will be a game changing service that all Field Service Management software companies will want to provide.

2. Mobility – Smart Watches

With the ever changing mobile device market, software will have to adapt and be able to cater for new technology. With the recent popularity of smart watches, soon, technicians and engineers will be able to access their field service management software through this device, especially now that voice to text recognition has came along a great way, the ability of being able to complete paperwork on the go, without having to type is an amazing bonus.

3. Route Optimization

Field service management software has already allowed service companies to implement automation into their day to day activities but this will continually evolve, with more and more various administration tasks becoming automated, route optimization will save more time for customers. The ability to assign a weekly schedule for 100+ employees, at the click of a button, with preset start and end locations (watch this space…) will free up an extraordinary amount of time for any company!
