Quoting for work, keeping jobs on schedule and making sure invoices get paid all give you a close view of how your business is doing. We want to hear about that experience from the people running trade and field service businesses across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Fieldmotion is running a survey for a new report, The State of Field Service in Ireland 2027. It takes about eight minutes to complete, and you can request a free copy of the findings when we publish in early 2027.
Why we’re asking business owners and managers
We want to understand what running a field service business looks like across the island of Ireland. How far ahead you’re booked, how long it takes to get paid and whether you have enough people to take on work are all part of that picture.
Your answers will help us explore those questions alongside the time spent on admin, plans for pricing and the outlook for the year ahead. We want to hear what is going well, too. The survey should reflect the experiences people share, rather than start with a conclusion about the industry.
We plan to repeat the survey each year so we can track how those experiences change.
Who can take part in the survey?
The survey is for owners, directors and managers of businesses that install, maintain, inspect or repair things at customers’ homes, premises or sites in Ireland or Northern Ireland.
That includes plumbers, electricians, heating and HVAC engineers, installers, fire and security firms, pest controllers and other field service businesses. Sole traders and businesses with larger teams are welcome to take part.
You don’t need to be a Fieldmotion customer. There are no questions about our software, and taking part won’t result in a sales follow-up.
If someone else in your business handles these decisions, please pass the survey on to them.
What we’re asking about
We’ll ask a little about your business, including your trade, county, team size and customers. The main questions cover:
-
How business compares with 12 months ago, how far ahead you’re booked and your confidence about the year ahead.
-
Your plans to change prices over the next 12 months.
-
Payment times, overdue and unpaid invoices, and the effect late payment has had on your business.
-
Work you’ve had to turn down because of staffing, and whether you employ an apprentice.
-
How much admin you do, when you fit it in and how you manage jobs, quotes and invoices.
-
How quickly you respond to enquiries and whether you use AI tools.
-
How much of your work involves energy upgrades or government-funded grants.
There are two optional questions about work-related stress or burnout and whether you’ve considered leaving your trade or selling your business. You can also tell us the one change that would make running your business easier.
The question about annual turnover is optional, too.
How we’ll use your responses
We’ll bring the responses together in the report and publish the results in grouped form. We won’t identify your business in the published results without your permission.
You can complete the survey without giving your name or email address. At the end, you can choose to request the report, enter the prize draw or give permission for us to quote you. Contact details are only requested if you select one of those options.
Details of how we handle your data are available in our privacy notice.
